The fifth Landscape Stories issue is dedicated to the Animals. 28 photograpers explore and investigate the ambiguous relationship between humans and animals.Animals are savage, fierce, cute, edible, horrible, lovely, faithful, aggressive, tame... Since the beginning humans have categorized animals in order to understand them and establish a meaningful relation with them. Despite the fact that humans ARE animals, the most of us still consider them inferior beings, living in "their own" habitats. On the other hand, "The eyes of an animal when they consider a man are attentive and wary. The same animal may well look at other species in the same way. He does not reserve a special look for man." So, what kind of animals are we? Are men "social animals" (Lucius Seneca) or perhaps "fierce beasts" (William Shakespeare)?

Het nieuwe silent landscape en de opleving van de noordelijk romantische traditie

Voor BUITEN heeft kunstenaar/curator Guido de Pooter de vrije hand gekregen om vanuit zijn kunsttheorie scriptie, de expositie samen te stellen. Het resultaat is een combinatie van prachtige, soms wat duistere werken.
In de expositie is werk te zien van onder meer Rob Voerman (Suspension of Disbelief). Hij toont een wereld die al lang niet meer de onze lijkt, waarin slechts restanten te herkennen zijn van een beschaving. Of het onheilspellende, verkoolde landschap van Anne Wenzel (Heaven) met hier en daar een uitgebrand autowrak. Ook is er werk van fotografe en aanstormend talent Kim Boske. Twee Belgische kunstenaars met zeer verstild werk vullen de expositie perfect aan: een tekening en een

Wat zijn de meest actuele ontwikkelingen in de fotografie in Nederland? Het Nederlands Fotomuseum biedt elke vier jaar een impressie in de nieuwe tentoonstellingenreeks QUICKSCAN NL. In deze eerste editie tonen ruim 25 fotografen en kunstenaars hun werk, niet ouder dan twee jaar en veelal nog niet eerder gepresenteerd. Kan een foto een performance, collage of installatie zijn? Nemen we definitief afscheid van de analoge fotografie? Hoe blijft het fotoboek overeind tussen de diversiteit van presentatievormen? QUICKSCAN NL#01 is een prikkelende momentopname van de fotografie in ons land.
